Help NASA...stay in bed!
Has there ever been a time when you did not want to get out of bed? Well, now you are in luck! I just read a story where you can go to work for NASA and stay in bed for three consecutive months. You are paid $10 per hour, or about $17,000 over the course of the study.
My favorite line in the piece states..."They can shower, surf the Internet, and watch DVDs, all while remaining in bed." OK, I am thinking how in the world does one shower while laying in bed? I may not be a rocket scientist or even a scientific rocket, but wouldn't your bed be a mess after a good shower? I know, I for one enjoy a good early morning shampooing while watching my favorite DVDs in bed!
You can read the full story at www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,395181,00.html.
I just wanted to share this job opportunity with everyone i know. I better go for now.
Remember, enjoy life today...smile!

This and that...
Just wanted to hit a few things quick. I see that my buddy Mike Francis who is deployed in Spain has received his new laptop. Hopefully, we will see more blogging from this great American storyteller. Remember, you can click on the American flag on the right side of my blog and it will take you directly to his site...www.hereswhatigot.blogspot.com.
Well, the tallies are in and it looks like there is a consensus on how I should end all of my posts...some may want me to just end my posts permanently. Ha! Ha! But, I must trudge on to give the American people what they want. And they want me and my humor and I am here to deliver.
Till next time. Enjoy life...smile!

What goes around, comes around...
As Yogi Berra would say..."It's deja-vu all over again." Looking at the list of programs recorded on our DVR amuses me, and Morgan is behind this amusement. She has figured out how to record on the DVR. I love her shows she chooses to record, because she records cartoons I watched growing up as a kid. Now I can relive my childhood memories when I watch Popeye and the Pink Panther. She probably hates me, because I can tell her what is about to happen. Thank goodness for Cartoon Network and Boomerang. We had great cartoons growing up. What are these kids watching today? Yep, I am starting to sound old.
Sit down and watch Scooby Doo with your kids. Relive those childhood memories. You will be glad you did!

Yes, it's Monday!
Just to be honest with you, I did not want to get out of bed today. There I was laying in bed, running my morning ritual through my head. Usually, it doesn't take that long for me to get ready for work. I get up, shower, brush my teeth, towel off, throw my clothes on, and presto - I am out the door. But, then I remembered...I had to shave. If I didn't shave, I knew I would eventually wolf-out today. So, I happily got out of bed. : ^(
I head to work knowing I will be staring at triple-digit temperatures today. I no more than sit in my chair at my desk when I start to think..."Man it is hot in here!" The air is out - great! It is 83.3 degrees Fahrenheit in our office right now as we speak! I am looking for a towel boy. I feel like I just got out of the sauna at the country club!
Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

Time to get motivated...
It is Saturday morning, you take a quick look at the 7-day forecast, and you think what project can I tackle today...right! It looks like we are scheduled to have 100 plus degree temperatures for the next five days, and the next two are hovering near that mark as well. So, seize the day. I would say one may need sunscreen in the days ahead. You may want to go to Sam's Club, because you are going to need it in large quantities it looks like.
In other matters, my Cardinals have now lost five games in a row. Needless to say I am in agony. We need another bat and a reliever. But, what do I know? I am not the General Manager. Ok, you might as well throw another starting pitcher in there as well since we are making a wish list.
I better get off...I have work to do. The wife just got home and she is cracking the whip. Later!

My brother's new website is open for MAD Pizza...
I know many of you have made the trek up to Northwest Arkansas and visited my brother's pizza place, The Mad Pizza Company. Well, I just wanted to inform you their website is now up and running again - www.themadpizzacompany.com.
Check out the website, and better yet go try their pizza if you have not already done so. You will be glad you did. For you guys, I recommend trying out their MAD Buffalo! If you love pizza, you gotta try this place. I am going to see if I can get some kind of advertising fee for this post!

New catch phrases have been mentioned...
Some people have given me a few more catch phrases to consider...
"See ya, wouldn't want to be ya!"
"Catch ya on the flip side!"
I am kind of leaning toward..."Let me leave you with this..." and then offer a nugget of information or ask a question.
Let me try it out today...
Let me leave you with this...How come if someone is told that there are 5 billion stars in the sky they would believe you, but if they are told there is wet paint they would have to touch it?

What saying should I use at the end of my posts?
I have been thinking about adding a catch phrase or saying at the end of all my posts. I am asking for your help in picking that catch phrase. I have supplied a poll at the right of my blog for my readers to participate in. Just hover your cursor over the choices and it will give you the full phrase to choose from. After voting, feel free to add any catch phrases you have for me in the comments on this post.
I cannot promise I will use any of these, but I just feel like I better come up with some catch phrase to end all of my posts before I am asked to go in syndication! : ^ )
Happy voting!

Baby it's hot outside...
Remember the song that has the lyrics, "Baby it's cold outside?" Well, baby it's hot outside! Which reminds me...Thank God for inventing deodorant! Where would we be without that stuff?
I am reminded that I always think it is too hot to work, but if I want to go golf or watch a ballgame it is fine. Oh well, that is just how we are wired I guess.
Well, I rambled enough here today. I post what comes to my mind at the time, and right now it is the heat! Now you know the method of my madness of posting. But, you probably already figured that out from my spicy mustard post!
What are we as humans thinking?!
Yesterday, we received new sod on our "back 40." What in the world are we thinking? Ok, it is going to look nice, but what are the implications here? You guessed it - more to mow and more to weed eat. What a racket! We pay for this stuff and our sentence is 20 to 30 years of hard labor.
The Brady's on the "Brady Bunch" were smart. Their backyard was AstroTurf. Will we ever learn?
To be honest, it looks great and I am glad to have it!

Here's where it all started...
It was seven years ago today...(it almost sounds like the lyrics to the Beatles song, "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band"), that I married Kelley. It was probably the hottest day in the history of mankind. I almost passed out. I think it was 105 degrees outside, and 125 degrees inside. Thankfully, I made it, and the rest is as they say history.
Not only have we been blessed with each other, but we have two girls that I would not give up for anything in the world, Morgan and Lizzie Kate. God has truly blessed us during our marriage.
I just want to take this time to say - I love you Kelley! Happy Anniversary!

One dumb dog...
I know Zack is our dog, but he is really dumb. He really does some stupid things sometime. You do not have to throw him in the pool, he accidentally falls in on his own. Tonight was no exception. He fell in not once, not twice, but three times in our pool accidentally. When he leaves the pool, he immediately rolls in the nearest dirt pile. This makes for one nasty Shih Tzu. What a dumb dog!

Breaking News!
Another day, another visit to Subway. Same place to eat, the usual suspects. Kelley brought Morgan and Lizzie Kate by, and we ate at Subway since I only take 30 minute lunches now.
Believe it or not there is big news in this post - Morgan ate a turkey and cheese sandwich and she liked it! If you know Morgan this is hard to believe and probably should be featured on ABCNews as a Breaking News story. Normally, we cannot eat anywhere unless there are chicken nuggets in the establishment. So, progress has been made.
Don't forget to check out the Mike Francis blog...
Now, I have made it much easier to access Mike's Blog from my site. If you click on the American Flag with "Pray for Mike" on the right side of my blog, it will take you directly to his Blog - http://hereswhatigot.blogspot.com/.
I have really enjoyed reading his account of his being deployed to Spain. Mike, I know you are a rabid reader of my blog. We are praying for you.
Thank you for your sacrifice and serving our country!

A Pleasant Surprise...
Today I was lucky to be able to share lunch with Kelley, and daughter Lizzie Kate. We ate at Subway. Lizzie Kate got a turkey samich, apple slices, Cheetos, and chocolate milk. She was as happy as a lark.
I had pretty much my usual - Subway Club, and yes I added spicy mustard.
After we ate, Lizzie Kate wanted to make her rounds at my office. She came away with a Fredbird doll, a rabbit, and a rubber ducky. I am sure she thought it was very much worth her while to stop by and see me today.
Most of the time I eat lunch alone. Today I was lucky with the company I had.

You never know when you will need this...
Tonight I gave a valuable lesson to my kids. I am talking about of course, coin snatching. You put coins on your elbow and then you snatch them in your hand. Morgan worked her way up to snatching 4 quarters, a nickel, and two pennies at one time. Needless to say I am very proud of her. The "Caker" has a little work to do yet, but I have not given up hope. She gave it a good try. Effort is everything in coin snatching.
Have you ever Googled your last name?
Have you ever googled your last name? You may be in for a surprise. You just never know what you will find out there on the worldwide web. I wonder if George Costanza ever did this?
Anyway, I came across a construction company in Pennsylvania with my last name. To my surprise, I was contacted by their office manager, which had my last name prior to her being married. Her father owns the company. After a friendly conversation with her, I now have a couple of caps coming my way with my last name on them - Free of charge I might add!
Take it from me, George, uh, I mean Philip. Do yourself a favor. Search the web and come away with some goodies. You never know what you will find!

Mike Francis has arrived in Spain...
Mike left yesterday and is now deployed in Spain for three months. Please continue to keep him and his family in your prayers as he serves our country. Keep all of those who serve in our armed forces in your prayers as well.
Last night at about 3:50 a.m., I heard a beep. I checked my cell phone and I had a text message received from Mike at 3:31 a.m., that said, "Hey Buddy! I made it to Madrid." At first I thought I would go right back to bed after reading it. But, after clearing the cobwebs from my eyes, I prayed to God and thanked him for giving Mike a safe trip. I prayed that he would watch over him in the days ahead and give him a safe trip home.
It is good to know that someone thinks of you enough to send you a text message at any time and from anywhere.
Please keep him and his family in your prayers!

A Score that is Hard to Beat...
Yesterday, I took my daughter Morgan golfing - real golf. Well, at least it was on a real golf course. She has wanted to go golfing for sometime. We went to Deer Trails in Fort Chaffee.
The man was nice that ran the counter. Since it was Morgan's first time, he gave her a pink golf ball and a Ping visor. So, we really had a good experience there.
Morgan and I had a great day together. She hit some balls off of the tee, hit some from the fairway, and putted on the greens. Once she hit a ball off of the tee and it went a pretty good distance in the air. I knew I was in trouble and would have my hands full. I was going to be challenged by a real golfer.
Once we finished our day of golf, Morgan said, "We did not put our scores on the scorecard." "Well fill it in." I said.
Morgan put her "scores" on the scorecard. On four of Morgan's holes, she had three hole-in-ones, and one Zero!
Yes, scores like that are hard to beat!

A round of golf...
Last night I met up with two friends, Aaron Gamble and Tony Scantling, to play some golf at Vache Grasse. Kevin Jones was also in our group last night. Golf has been a real challenge to me. I am a little out of my element when I don't see the windmill or clown's mouth.
I am not quite ready for the PGA Tour, nor am I confused for Tiger Woods on the links. But, I do enjoy getting outside and the fellowship with the guys.
Tony really lifts you up. Sure, I hit a great shot every blue moon, but at other times depression sets in. On the last hole Tony said, "You had some great shots tonight." You know, we need that sometime. We probably ought to all practice encouraging others more.
I am vowing to get better at golf. I really enjoy playing. Once I learn this game - LOOK OUT!!! I think I will go out today and try on a green jacket for size.

Disappointing news today...
Today started with the disappointing news that Matt Jones, former Razorback, has been arrested. What a tragic story. How many kids playing football in Arkansas, wore his number 9 jersey while pretending they were him?
We all fail. We all stumble. We all sin. Romans 7:14-20 comes to mind here.
It is a shame that someone with such God-given talent has fallen with such a thud right in front of our eyes. Matt has been in the spotlight much of his life. This just magnifies anything he does wrong. How would we act or live if our life was under a huge microscope?
We need to pray daily for God's help in fighting the temptations that are out in the world. They are definitely there. There is so much to lose.

Great turnout for Mike last night...
Last night our Sunday School class had a fellowship at our house for Mike and Andria Francis. Mike is being deployed next week.
Mike means a lot to us. We just wanted to let him know that we cared for him and that we would keep him in our prayers while he is away.
Pray for all of our service men and women as they serve our country each day.

If there was any doubt what I would write about...
If there was any doubt what I would write about today, it was quickly put to rest once I received a call from my daughter Morgan at work.
She said, "Daddy, have you told anyone at work that I made Jesus the Boss of my life? I have told a lot of people."
Wow, does that make one think? If that question does not hit you right between the eyes nothing will. How many opportunities do we have to share Jesus with others? How many people do we come in contact with on a daily basis? We do not need to keep what we have inside us. Tell someone about Jesus today. Let's work on being bold for Christ.
Kelley and I are still talking to our Morgan on her decision. We want to make sure she understands everything. But, she continues to say that Jesus is the Boss of her life.
Guess what? Once I am done here, I am going to tell some people at work that my daughter is making Jesus the Boss of her life, and I am very proud of her!
Pray for wisdom and understanding.

Back to work I go...
Well, it has been a long weekend. We celebrated Kelley's birthday and had a few people over to watch the city's fireworks. It was so good to just relax, not fight the crowds and be able to watch the fireworks from your own home. We also could see fireworks going off from all over the town from our house.
But, all good things must come to an end. Gotta go back to work in the morning. Back to the old grind.

Found this to be amusing...
Cardinals win in Thriller!!!
What a game last night. After losing a lead to the Mets, Troy Glaus came to the plate and delivered a solo shot on a 3-2 count with two outs in the ninth. The homerun was the seond of the night for Glaus giving the Cardinals an 8-7 walk-off victory over the Mets.
Can this be the Cardinals year again? It would make the world a better place.
One more game with the Mets tonight, and then bring on the Cubbies!!!

Maybe the wife does know best.
My wife bought me a new watch in Destin at the local outlet mall for Father's Day. It is a Timex Solar watch (not exactly like the one pictured). I had went in the shop earlier and looked over the selection. I mentioned I liked some of the solar digital and also the atomic watches that change the time for you. This can be very helpful when you change time zones.
I value my wife's opinion, so she went in to look over the collection to make a purchase. She came back with a solar watch that is both digital and analog. I do not know if I had a perplexed look on my face or what, but my wife said, "You don't like it, do you?" I assured her I did and that I just did not see that watch in the store. She told me she did not just get me a digital watch because that is a "lazy man's watch." She also did not buy me the atomic watch reminding me..."When do you ever go into another timezone?"
Today at work, I have had at least two compliments on my watch. You know it is a nice watch. I really do like it. My wife did me right. Note to self...Maybe I need to listen to her more often.
I have been told this is newsworthy or at least blogworthy...
Yesterday, I bought one of my Subway favorites - the Subway Club. I know, "eat fresh." Anyway, I strayed a little bit on my normal ingredients and added spicy mustard to the mix. My sandwich tasted great. I totally recommend adding this condiment to your sandwich choice.
Moral of this story...Branch out a little bit from the norm. Go where no man has ever gone before. Try something new for Pete's sake. You might just like it!

A phone with a mind of it's own!
Last night my wife said her phone was not working. She said none of the buttons would work on it. When I got up this morning, I heard the little jingle the phone does when you turn it on. When I looked at the phone, it looked like it was trying to access the web, so I turned it off.
So, now I am at work, and my wife calls me and says - "Guess what? Jennifer called me and said - "Are you ok? Because your phone called me about five times in the middle of the night!"
That is all we need. As if rate plans, and minutes aren't issues enough for us. We now have a phone making calls for us! Needless to say, my wife is off to the cellular store for answers.
Do you just want to toss that cell phone away sometime?
